Dr. Karren was born and raised in northern
Utah. He graduated from Utah State University Magna Cum Laude and
valedictorian of the College of Humanities. He attended medical school
at the Medical College of Wisconsin, formerly Marquette Medical College
in Milwaukee, where he graduated with honors and was elected a member of
the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Society.

During his first year of medical school he
was awarded an Armed Forces Scholarship and completed a transitional
internship and ophthalmology residency at Letterman Army Medical Center
in San Francisco, California, graduating with honors. He served as Chief
of Ophthalmology at the 121st Evacuation Hospital in South Korea and as
Staff Ophthalmologist and first year resident instructor at Madigan Army
Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington.
In between his studies and service to his country, Dr. Karren served two
years in Spain on a religious mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints. He has traveled to Tonga & Guatemala on medical
missions performing cataract and other surgeries for the needy. He’s
involved in community outreach programs offering free community
screenings for diabetic eye disease.
As well as offering comprehensive eye care, cataract and glaucoma
treatment, Dr. Karren has a special interest in refractive surgery
including LASIK. He is Board Certified, has written papers on eye trauma
and surgical techniques, and lectured on diabetic eye disease at
national meetings and local community health groups.
